Elena Poverenov has completed her PhD in Organic Chemistry in Weizmann Institute of Science at 2009 and postdoctoral studies in Polymers and Material Chemistry in Weizmann Institute of Science. Since 2011, she is a researcher in the Institute of Postharvest and Food Sciences at Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), The Volcani Center. Elena’s research group is implementing advanced approaches from material sciences, and nanotechnology to food and agriculture. Her laboratory is developing methods that allow improving safety and quality of agricultural products without adding excessive amount of synthetic pesticides, antimicrobials and insecticides. Her current major research directions are (1) ” natural polymer-based nanostructures for effective delivery and precise release of active agents” (2) biopolymer-based active coatings for pre-harvest protection and prolonging postharvest storability of agricultural products and (3) “contact-active surfaces and packages to prevent microbial contamination of food”. Elena is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed international publications including top journals and is a recipient of various national and international research grants. She is a Head of Agro-Nanotechnology Research Center, ARO. Elena is a member of Israel Chemical Society, Israel Society for Biotechnology and Engineering and American Chemical Society and has been serving as an editorial board member in several international scientific journals.
